Congrats To Jefferson University’s Women's Basketball Coach Tom Shirley.

Congrats To Jefferson University’s Women's Basketball Coach Tom Shirley.

It’s The Same Old Song––Tom Shirley has won again! This time it is win #800 of his illustrious career of roaming the sidelines and coaching women’s college basketball. A-G Administrators is extending a warm and celebratory congratulations to our partner Tom Shirley, Athletic Director and Head Coach of the women’s basketball team at Thomas Jefferson University. Coach Shirley recorded his 800th career win on November 17th, adding to an impressive and storied career as one of the most successful coaches in the history of the women’s game. He is just the 17th coach in NCAA women’s basketball history to reach the milestone. The famous Four Tops song is one of his favorites and a frequent response he’ll give when you ask Tom how things are going.

“Coach Shirley’s leadership and dedication to the student-athletes and his program makes him a model partner for us here at A-G. He knows the value of bringing a great team together and as we celebrate his personal and professional success, we also celebrate our partnership with him.” ––Joe Giunta, Director of Collegiate Partnerships at A-G

Over his 32 seasons as a head coach, Tom Shirley has guided the Rams to 10 NCAA Tournament appearances, four CACC championships and two Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference crowns. Under his leadership, the Rams have a record of 648-289 and have won at least 20 games 23 times. Former student-athletes, coaches, and administrators recognize Coach Shirley not only for his accomplishments on the court but for his off-the-court presence in their lives.

“I believe the wins have a special place in his heart, but ultimately bettering the lives of others is where he gets the most enjoyment…he truly sets up his athletes and recruits for life after college.” ––Matthew Bamford, Associate Head Coach of Women’s Basketball, Jefferson University

“Congratulations to Tom on this tremendous milestone! I know this sounds cliché, but as great as Tom has been and remains as a coach, he is an even greater person off the court. Without question, he has been the single most influential person in my life outside of my parents. I am forever grateful for the opportunity he gave me 23 years ago, for the continued guidance and counsel he provides and most importantly, for the friendship that we have today. Congratulations Tom!!”––Anthony C. Berich, Interim Director of Athletics, Stockton University
